Join faculty, students and staff from different disciplines along with members of the public to explore a social justice issue. Refugee migration, truth and reconciliation, Covid-19 recovery—the topics change, but the approach remains the same: interdisciplinary, collaborative and meaningful.
IDP 2026: Food Matters
Food is a powerful bridge: bringing people together through dialogue, shared experiences and mutual respect. Across cultures, communal meals and food traditions foster understanding and reconciliation.
Over the coming months, campus and community members will be invited to come together for shared meals, conversations and learning experiences that explore:
- Historical food knowledge and practices
- Community food stories
- Food, conflict and reconciliation
- Fasting and ceremony
Food is a potent lens through which we experience culture, identity and connection. It shapes personal preferences and health while grounding us in rituals, memories and sensory traditions. At the same time, food reflects social inequities. Wealth disparities and systemic exclusions limit access to healthy, culturally significant and sustainable food for many communities.
Stay tuned for our Cultures of Drinking event in November 2025 and an exciting lineup of IDP events in Winter 2026.
All educational forums are open to the public, providing an opportunity for meaningful discussions about local and global issues while connecting MacEwan to communities outside the university.
