For years, MacEwan University’s annual open house event has been held on the first Saturday in November. It’s a chance for future MacEwan University students to talk with faculty and staff, learn more about MacEwan’s programs and services, and get their questions answered.

At this year's Open House on November 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., prospective students can explore everything our undergraduate institution has to offer.

Planning to attend Open House, but not exactly sure what you should ask when you’re there? Here are four great questions to help you get the conversation going.

1. What can I do with a certificate/diploma/degree in ____?

MacEwan’s friendly faculty and staff can tell you how different credentials translate into careers. In addition to teaching, many faculty members also work in their industry of expertise, so they can share the inside scoop on what employers and graduate schools are looking for.

HINT: When it comes to landing your dream job, work and volunteer experience can be just as important as getting good grades. Many programs include experiential learning opportunities like co-operative education, practicums, volunteer opportunities and more – ask about them!

2. What types of services does MacEwan have if I need help?

This question has so many answers – writing and math tutors, peer support, counselling, academic advisors, student groups, the kihêw waciston Indigenous Centre and more. University is a big step, but there are people at MacEwan who are ready and willing to help. Many of them will be at Open House. Make sure to stop by and chat with them.

3. How am I going to pay for this?

Being a straight-A student can score you scholarships and awards, but there are lots of other funding options too (both inside and outside of MacEwan). Ask about how we can help you figure out the funds you’ll need – and the best ways to access them.
