Policies and guidelines

Non-credit courses do not count for university-level credit towards a degree or diploma program. Non-credit courses are designed to supplement your existing education and experience. There is more flexibility in the learning objectives, and they are taught by experienced industry professionals who are currently working or have dedicated experience in the field. Many of the courses offered for professional and personal development are non-credit courses. More information about non-credit courses can be found in our non-credit policy documentation.

Sometimes the School of Continuing Education partners with outside institutions to provide access to a greater variety of courses. Because of this, discounts can only be applied to MacEwan University-owned non-credit courses.

If you have any questions about the status of a course, please contact us at (780) 497-4400 (or toll-free at 1-855-797-4400) or sce@macewan.ca.

This policy is currently under review.

Courses more than four weeks long

For courses more than four weeks long, a 100 per cent refund is available to students who withdraw before the day of the second scheduled class in a face-to-face course unless exceptions are noted in the program guide and/or registration forms. No refunds are available after the deadline.

Courses less than four weeks long

For workshops, seminars and short courses that are four weeks or less, a 100 per cent refund is available to students who withdraw five calendar days before the first scheduled class unless exceptions are noted in the program guide and/or registration forms. No refunds are available after the deadline.

Courses offered on behalf of other institutions

When courses are offered on behalf of another learning institution or agency, the refund category is in accordance with the signed contract. Please contact the School of Continuing Education for details and deadlines.

If you wish to withdraw from a course before the drop deadline, you can do so by following these steps:

  1. Log in to My Campus and navigate to My Enrolment History in the left-side menu.
  2. From there, you should see a drop-down or transfer option under the Actions and status column.
  3. Click Request drop, then select a drop reason on the next page and click Submit.
  4. Your withdrawal from the course is processed automatically, and a refund is initiated to the original credit card used for payment. If this does not occur, please contact sce@macewan.ca for assistance.
  5. If you want to move to a different section of the course, you can do so by selecting Request transfer.

View the add/drop deadlines for the academic schedule in the Academic Calendar.

Non-attendance in a course does not constitute a withdrawal from the course. Notifying your instructor, ceasing to attend classes or stopping payment are not accepted as a course drop or withdrawal.

Note: SCE International students may withdraw after the add/drop deadline, but they must pay the term's fees.

Students are expected to join and participate in their scheduled live classes according to their weekly schedule in My Campus. Students are required to complete the prescribed learning activities during their scheduled class sessions and/or on mêskanâs as directed by the instructor.

MacEwan University reserves the right to restrict enrolment or to cancel any class that has insufficient enrolment. If the course you have enrolled in is cancelled, we make every effort to contact you prior to the start date. Fees for cancelled classes are refunded or can be applied to another course.
