Midterms are in the bag and Reading Break feels like a distant memory, but there’s still lots to look forward to in March. Get involved in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion events, Pride Week, take in a concert or just decompress in the library with a PAWWS pet.

Celebrate diversity 

From March 11 to 15, the MacEwan Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity has a host of workshops, panels, hangouts and drag shows to open your mind and heart as you celebrate the diversity of 2SLGBTQ+ communities and allies at Pride 2024: Queering the Future. To start it all off, check out the Pride March and opening ceremonies on March 11

As part of Queer Horizons Speaker Series, learn about trans and gender-diverse people in a historical context at Past, Present and Future: The Evolution of Trans and Gender Diverse People’s Rights in Canada

March 18 to 22 is Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Week at MacEwan, hosted by the Office of Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion. Take in events all week, including the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (I.D.E.A.) Leader Awards, which recognize MacEwan students, faculty, staff and alumni who advance and promote equity, inclusion and human rights on campus and in the community. Nominations are open until March 11

Speakers and literary offerings

The Writing Centre is hosting a session to help you Speak Like a Scholar on March 5 and to improve your Professional Communication on March 20

On March 12, listen to visiting author Margarita Saona read from her latest book about medical interventions, titled Of Monsters and Cyborgs. 

On March 20, at the final installment of the 2024 Interdisciplinary Dialogue project, Dr. Oksana Tashkinova will share her first-hand perspective on the resilience of her hometown in Ukraine, Mariupol. She will be joined by professors from MacEwan and the University of Alberta to talk about the power of collective resilience and the potential for urban rebirth. 

On March 22, Book of the Year author and alum Jessica Johns will read from her novel Bad Cree. Register for the reading and book signing event

March is a great month to check out what Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications students are up to. Take in one of the contemporary combos concerts on March 9 or 10, the A Capella and Jazz Combos concert on March 17 or the Guitar Band performance on March 24. If you prefer theatre, there are still tickets for the final production of the 2023/24 season, Sunday in the Park with George, which plays March 20 to 24.

MacEwan International is hosting a handful of online information sessions for international students, including two sessions with a Canada Revenue Agency outreach officer to talk about doing taxes in Canada and webinars about Post-Graduate Work Permits. 

MacEwan is host to the provincial Intercollegiate Model UN Conference on March 2 and 3. Learn about studying abroad at one of two Education Abroad sessions, March 15 and 26. And if you’re thinking about a career in technology or business, don’t forget to register to attend the Business and Tech Career Fair on March 20. 

It’s never too early to start planning for the next school year. Get prepared for your 2024/25 classes with planning and enrolment sessions on March 5 and 7

Need to focus on wellness? Set aside some “me time” during this month’s Stretch in the Library sessions with Sport and Wellness Exercise Specialist Colleen on March 13 and 27. And for sober or sober-curious students, this month’s recovery on campus gathering is March 13

Future Griffins on campus

If you’re around on March 1 and 2, you might notice many enthusiastic teenagers on campus. They’ll be here for Indigenous Youth Rising, a conference that encourages Indigenous youth to pursue a balance of education and culture, highlights Indigenous role models and supports youth in realizing and pursuing their goals and gifts. 

And finally, don’t forget campus is closed March 29, 31 and April 1 so you can enjoy one last break before the end-of-term push.
